In 1888, young Thomas W. Holley was a paper mill employee in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The mill's rejects, called "sortings," seemed an ideal source of raw material for the budding entrepreneur who was clever enough to redirect the mill's sortings into usable and appealing products. He cut the paper to size, added ruled lines, and stitched the paper into pads - thereby apply good old American ingenuity to create the now ubiquitous legal pad. Ampad has continued to innovate in many product categories, always seeking to understand the needs and interests of customers and to provide appealing, high quality products.
